Team Applications
Workshops are appropriate for individuals and teams from the same organization (and their agency, consulting or design partners) because the entire team benefits from a shared understanding and common vision. Our Client Services Manager, Karen Doyle, will be happy to advise you on the optimal team composition. Applications for each team member working on a project must be received before the team’s materials are reviewed by the Admissions Team.

Team Substitutions
If you need to substitute team members for any reason, please notify please notify Client Services Manager, Karen Doyle, in writing at least 10 days prior to your workshop start date. The substitute team members will need to complete an application 5 days prior to your workshop start date. The selection of appropriate substitutes will be your responsibility and substitutes will not be reviewed by the Admissions Team.

Commitment Requirements
Because workshops are highly immersive and intensive experiences, the full commitment of both the participant and their sponsoring organization is required. Sponsoring organization must agree to relieve participants of their work responsibilities while attending a workshop so they can be fully engaged in the innovation process.

We will acknowledge receipt of all applications within 3 business days. Admission decisions will be emailed on the 1st and 16th of each calendar month. If your application is received less than 30 days before the workshop starts, an admission decision will be made as soon as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply to a workshop?
Each workshop has its own set of admissions criteria, but the application process is the same. Simply submit the “Request Application” form and we will email you your customized application within 3 business days.
Is there an application fee?
There is no fee for applying to a workshop.
What are the admissions requirements?
To ensure a rich learning experience for all participants, admission is selective and based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. For each workshop, we carefully select a cross-section of candidates who have different backgrounds, experiences and skillsets. This diversity is critical to the innovation process in order to represent different ways of thinking, processing information, and translating insights to action.
How long does it take to process my application?
We will acknowledge receipt of all applications within 3 business days. Admission decisions will be emailed on the 1st and 16th of each calendar month. If your application is received less than 30 days before the workshop starts, an admission decision will be made as soon as possible.
When will I receive the workshop schedule?
Approximately three weeks prior to the start of the workshop, you will receive a packet of preliminary information, including a detailed schedule, required reading, and assignments for the first few days of the program.
What airport is closest to Duke University?
Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) is approximately 15 miles from Durham, NC. When making travel arrangements, you should allow at least 30 minutes travel time between the airport and downtown Durham.
What should I wear to the workshop?
Business casual attire is appropriate. Your workshop may include interviewing and observing consumers in their homes, offices or places of business so dress as though you were their guest. Your workshop may also include developing prototypes in a Maker’s Lab where you may choose to paint, work with wood or other materials so pack accordingly.
Can I bring my partner?
Due to the rigorous daily schedule and frequent homework assignments, we do not recommend inviting family or friends to join you at the workshop
If I’m not accepted into a workshop, can I apply again for a future workshop?
Yes. Admission to workshops is highly competitive, as workshop size is tightly controlled. In addition, we work to ensure the workshop includes participants with a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to reapply for future workshops.
